If you get a bender make sure it's the right size, you can kink the tubing if you use a big bender on small tubing, and there's a trick with the measuring to make sure you get it right. If you go this route and have any questions just PM me and I'll try to answer them.
Really? Cuz if you search google for 'conduit' it comes up with the same stuff.

Weird how that happened.

Here is my roof rack, i did minimal welding but you don'r really need to i used self tappers to hold up the rails and for the bottom you could use steel mesh and screw it in
good luck

Thats how I did mine and it has worked out great. Its not the best picture but you can kinda see it. (the ladder is covering one of the lights)
Just quoted this incase I'm saying the same thing....

If you have the full rails on your roof instead of the 2/3 rail, couldn't you grab just the crossbar off of another XJ and use that as your mount for your lights? That way you still have 2 crossbars available for a rack, or whatever else you decide to do.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever seen the stock XJ rails with a bunch of crossbars on them? If you didnt lock them in, I'm somewhat curious how many you could fit up there. For no other reason than to do it of course.

It is conduit, EMT is the technical name for it. I'm used to calling it EMT from my days of electrical work. I wasn't trying to correct you, I was just stating the technical name.

I've seen a guy around town with four bars so that it can hold a stronger load. he usually has a fullsize spare up there.

I have 4 of the stock crossbars on my XJ for now till my rack is built. It works great and they were $5 a piece at the JY
