Default anybody have this issue with aftermarket rims?

Finally picked out some rims for my 99 xj. My tires are bald so I just went all in and decided that I needed black rims as well. (the orange on the lip I put on myself. It matches my paint.)

Anywho, I took them and the Jeep to Firestone today to have them put on some Destination AT's. The service guy just called me and said that there is a sliver of a gap between where the rim and the hub meet - just a tiny amount. I figured it would be a matter of tightening the lug nuts more but he said that doing that might affect other stuff. They are keeping it overnight until their head technician comes in in the morning to see what the deal is. I'm confused here... Has this ever happened to anyone and what would I do about this? I went with a 8 x 15 rim instead of a 7 x 15, though I'll admit I'm not sure how the wider wheel could affect this.

You're talking about the center bore. Ideally you want a rim that's hubcentric (wheel bore size same as hub nub), but lug centric rims work fine. There are adapters if the gap is too big.

If this is such a big issue that they need to confer with the head technician, I'd skip that place next time.
XJ center bore is 71.5 IIRC, what's the CB of your new wheels?

+1..

and on a side note, I love the rims and the lip. Orange is my favorite color. Please post a pic once mounted safely.

It took me a minute to look this up but I believe the center bore to be 83.10mm on these new rims.

Where did you buy your wheels, and are they a 15x8 with 3.75-4" of BS on them and your yr XJ?

Not sure what happened here, but their 'head technician' called me back the next day and told me all was good once they put in the center cap on the wheel. I don't know how this solves a center bore offset issue but he seemed pretty adamant.

Here's a pic of my whole rig with the new wheels on. I thnk I'll start a build thread with all of the stuff I've done to her at this point. Need a catchy name though.

Let me explain what happened. Once they put the center cap on the gap was no longer visible, so it must be ok. That is, unless the center cap is made out of 5mm thick material (highly unlikely).

Yea, i was thinking the same thing. Probably need to go out and pick up some of those spacers and do the damn thing myself.
