**** Let me preface this statement by saying, my XJ is not lifted....with a lift this probably wouldn't have been an issue *****

When I swapped an XJ d44 into the rear of my 98 that originally had a 35, the driveshaft was too long. The d44 has a much longer snout on it, and the shaft slip yoke bottomed out before I could get it seated on the axle yoke.

I can't speak for the 8.25, though I do know it is a bit longer than the d35. But the 44 is a good 1.5" longer at the pinion yoke than the 35.

With the 8.25 swap I was okay as my XJ is lifted a bit over 3".

Oh I should probably preface my statement by saying my Jeep is not lifted. So when swapping that 44 in place of the 35, with no lift, I had driveshaft length issues.

ok, so you were fine with your configuration.
are you gonna take responsibility for his with your statement?

these are different axles, different pinion lengths, so therefore different driveshaft lengths.
granted, with a lifted jeep, you have more room in your transfer case yoke for slip, so when you lifted it, your shaft is pulled out slightly more than stock. but his is stock height, so he may end up smashing his t-case because the shaft is too long...

to the OP, just measure both shafts. if they're different, use the proper one.
this is simple tech, if you're gonna modify your junk, do your measuring.

I hear ya.

Sometimes it seems as if we run damage control, making sure some folks don't get the wrong ideas/info. Clarification, as you did, is very important.
