You'll need a bastard joint, most likely 1310/1350 and you'll also need to have your drive shaft shortened. I had a bit over 2" cut out of mine and I have a almost a 3" stretch.

I'll go on and say it: Blocks on a XJ are a bad idea! I have seen two XJ's flip on the road due to lift blocks.
As you apply the brakes hard the axle will roll rearward and will pull the drive shaft off of the output shaft then the drive shaft digs into the pavement and over you go. I witnessed this first hand on one of those occasions and it happened in front of me. A group of XJ's were convoying home from a trail ride when it happened.
It sucked to have to pull three young men out of a rolled XJ and start administering first aid after just having good fun on the trails. A deer ran out in front of the XJ, he braked hard and I watched the rear lift then roll over to the pass side then the Jeep went into a barrel roll.
I highly recommend a traction bar and a SYE with a long slip drive shaft if you do go with blocks over an inch tall.
Just trying to save you the trauma of an event like that, not preaching.

I would hope with the lift needed for 40" tires a SYE would be installed and the drive shaft popping out wouldn't be an issue. If not carry lots of spare u-joints.
