I just happen to currently be checkin' my mpg as I recently replaced the original O2 sensor. I topped it off a week ago and drove it with the gas light on for the last few days. I topped it off last night 22.16 gallons.(musta been runnin' on fumes) That, combined with the trip meter (289 miles) 13 mpg. 'bout what it's been getting. Runs great, idles smooth, and plenty of power. Completely stock everything. I feel it could be better, but those 289 miles were all short trips around town. I think this tank i'll do a 300 mile highway run.

I've been getting about 11 in town.... I recently added a high flow air filter, which actually made it drop a few mpgs, any thoughts.... Do I maybe need to unhook the battery and let it reset for the higher air flow?

My fuel light turns on and i still have around 3 more gal. i have a 19gal fuel tank. I get about 15mpg if im speeding at 70mph. 18mpg if im at 55mph. in town depending on stop an go im around 13-16mpg.
my other 92' doesnt do as well but its cause she isnt taken care of well haha. she gets around 15mpg continuously, except for off-roadin haha.

Wrong, my XJ will only hold 14 gallons when it is bone dry. I have seen 13.5, 16, and the 20 gallon tanks.
Also, I don't know why people get such bad gas mileage with the XJ. I have 2.5" (thought it was 3", but not quite), 4.0l, AX-15 trans, 3.55:1 gears, and run Michelin 235/75R15 LTX MS2 tires -- soon to have 245/75R16 Goodyear Duratracs -- and I get fantastic gas mileage. I have tested the MPG many times using a GPS and I never get worse than 22mpg with a mix of town & highway, and have seen a best of 30.16mpg (3.05 gallons) for a 92-mile trip.
I average around 27mpg on a good level highway, while maintaining 65mph. It really loves running at 2100-2300RPMs. When I am in town, I rarely come out of 3rd gear, since it loves running near the peak of it's TQ band for maximum MPG. Oh, I also have the Neon injectors, have bored out the throttle body, I have also opened up the air-box and added a cold-air intake. I think that I have just hit on a good combination.
People may think that I am crazy concerning these MPG figures, but I am an engineer so I know how to run tests and experiments with proper controls. I am amazed, too, trust me. I have ran these tests over and over again, and they keep coming back pretty close to the previous figures. It amazes me every time I drive to Salt Lake City, Utah (240 miles away) and I have just under 1/2 a tank when I get there (again, only 14 gallon capacity).

I was getting 14ish until I replaced the upstream O2 sensors and cleaned the IAT. It also had new fluids from front to back since I bought it.
