Default Best performance upgrades???

I have a 96 jeep cherokee. Straight 6. I eventually want to drop a small block chevy 350 in it. As for now though, any ideas for performance upgrades? Thanks in advance!

There's really not much potential for big gains without big money. You're looking at a free flowing intake and exhaust, injectors, and intake swap. Or build a stroker.

Save up and build the chevy engine if that's what you want.

For the money, the BBuchta supercharger kit is pretty hard to beat:

http://jeepsuperchargers.com/TJ_Wran...ercharger.html

Average power increase: +60rwHP and +70-80rwTQ 45% increase!

Stock = 135rwhp / 165rwtq, Stock + bolt-ons = 150rwhp / 180rwtq, Stroker = 195rwhp / 245rwtq

BBuchta Supercharger Kit 5-6 pounds boost = 200-210rwhp / 240-260rwtq

You can run it until you get the 350 and then sell it for just slightly less than you paid for it (I sold one kit and made $400 profit).

Uh.... He said he's saving up to buy a 350. Those kits are like $1000 more than a 350 cost.

I can't imagine spending $2500 on a supercharger kit. I'd love to have money just floating around.

To start with a "COMPLETE" tune-up everything and change all fluids and filters top to bottom, front to back. Then check all sensors and linkages and codes if any. That is the basic before you start anything major and those will run you $300+ do just those if nothing major shows up.........Then you can start on the front end and steering, brakes, suspension, shocks.

Try not to get the cart before the horse.

I'm not an engine guy, but through my little research I can think of at least 2 other motors I'd rather swap in. that or even stroke out the 4.0
why a 350?

Exhaust and intake basically do nothing to these motors except make them louder.

Dont waste money on the 4.0 if you are going SBC or whatever in the future.

Header and full exhaust and a cowl intake is a good place to start. That supercharger is nice but power pre dollar its not even close to best bang for the buck. You can get a truck 5.3 ls wiring ecu and 4l60 for under 2 grand. For the 500 you could get almost the rest of the v8 swap parts needed and t case.

What's this infatuation with making XJs fast??? It's a Jeep. Unless it has a Grand Cherokee badge accompanied by a SRT8 badge it's not going to be fast.
