To me it's worth the extra money driving my Jeep as a DD, yes I spend more money but it makes me happy, and I'd rather be broke and happy than rich and suicidal.

My best upgrade for my XJ was to buy another XJ, lol. I bought a stock one and use that one most of the time. I will be using my white one on Friday's and for wheeling only. I'll be able to keep it trail ready that way. My blue one is a good DD. It's in good shape and uses less gas than my white one. I wouldn't drive anything else.

I usually use my XJ as my main daily driver, but I myself only work maybe 5 minutes from my house, and 90+% of my driving is short in town trips. I did however buy a 98 Honda Accord as a backup/secondary car, and that is what I take most times I need to make a trip out of town (used it to pick up my XJ Dana44 in the trunk/backseat over 1.5hours away lol). I personally find I couldn't possibly have the XJ as my only car with how I drive it, it just would be too much to worry about and I LOVE seeing the gas savings when I drive the car!

An Even better upgrade: Find a carpool. I was driving myself 17 miles one way, and putting up with the idiotic traffic conditions in Portland (Oregon). Joined a carpool for $60/month. Half the price of driving myself, get to leave work on a schedule (no staying late at work ), and I don't have to own and maintain a commuter car. Having 2 cars to take care of is enough work (XJ and wifes van).

I have two toy car/daily drivers. My jeep is an offroader, dog park goer, bad weather car, camper, have to pick something up etc. and my toyota mr2 spyder is for work and school diving or date night car blasting through the hills. she gets 30mpg and is an absolute blast to drive. i still love my jeep and still drive her several times a week. i hate front wheel drive and that is basically most things in the good gas ballpark. And while the Mr2 is obviously not the best bet just for gas this was the best solution for me.
