Default Best way to replace lost keys?

I only had one set of keys to my 99 XJ, and they were stolen. What is the best or cheapest way to replace the keys?

Just use the one you have in the magnetic box under your . . .
Oh wait, son, I am disappoint . . .

Years ago that happened to me in a Karmon Ghia and I was able to take the ignition switch to a locksmith who manually filed another key.

Go to the dealership. They can make you a key based on the vin number

No, I completely disagree. DO NOT GO TO THE DEALERSHIP! The truth is, that's the worst option. The dealership is the obvious way to go, but just know that it's the most expensive. For a 99 XJ, you have several options. Lost mine several years ago and I had a locksmith down the street do it for pocket change.

Dealer made me a key for $12 while I waited. Needed insurance card with vin and driver licence. They will also do it with title and driver licence.

I have been building an offroad highboy utility trailer the past couple weeks to haul equipment with behind the Jeep. My other trailers are to big, to long or to low.

If anything it will be a very cool place to go hang out for the weekends

93 XJ, lost my keys while out. Called a dealer and the car was too old to get the info off the VIN. Called a locksmith. He said he could create a key and tried but with 265K on the vehicle, my locks were too loose for him to be able to do it so he had to call it in to a service for the pattern that charged them for the service (something like $125) so it ended up costing me a pretty penny to get a key.

Unfortunately it sounds like you ended up with the wrong locksmith. As "Loose" as yours was he should have had no problems at all getting it to turn to "removal position" for tumbler disassembly and key match.

Just the other day a customer left his Dodge Truck to have work done on it and took off with the keys. After I was done it was in the way and I had to move it, used my Jeep key with no problem but I cannot share the trick here though, someone might abuse this knowledge.
