Um....I think I get what your asking.
I think your asking if its easiest to build mounts by dimension or by using a cardboard template. Is this correct?
If yes, then cardboard would prop be easiest.....then transfer to your steel.
If thats not what your asking, my comprehension skills arent up to snuff!!

As a fabricator, I have to say that makes zero sence. Typically you start with mounts and go from there. Why would you tube it without something to mount it to?
