if anyone else has come across this, please share.

DISCOUNT TIRE PLEASE CHIME IN ON THIS NEW POLICY.

ps not sure if this topic is in the correct place. im a newb. any help would be much appreciated.
Yeah if you ever get custom wheels, you have to let them no exactly how you want them done, and always check before you leave. In my case, screw it, let them sand my wheels, ill just use there finish warranty to get a new set, I've never heard of this or cant even think of reasoning behind it, unless you had so much breakdust build up that it was making it difficult to balance

That's fine. Everyone is a newb at one time. I'm telling you what you need to do so that your post will get some exposure. Popping off at me isn't going to get you any street cred.

Yes, a rag probably would have solved the issue. A grinder was probably faster. If you were to post some pictures and be assertive when you CALL corporate then I'm sure you'll be able to get this stuff taken care of.

I, personally, wouldn't have been going back to a place that has screwed up multiple times in the past...

I worked for Dtc for five years(no longer with them) counterbalancing a wheel/tire is simply human error, it shouldn't happen but they screwed up, as far as "sanding the wheel", maybe I missed it in your novel, but was it the back side of the wheel at the mounting flange or on the rim(not the lip) where tape weights would go? At any rate, if it was either or both I get why they would have done that. Speaking from my experience from working there, yes we were trained to use a wire wheel on a die grinder to remove corrosion from the mounting flange, be it on the back side of the wheel or on the hub of the vehicle itself. That was done so that the mounting surface was free of buildup, to allow for a flush mounting surface and to reduce the chance of having a wheel fall off. Now if it was where the tape weights go, then they probably did it simply as a shortcut to clean the surface so that the weights would hopefully not fall off. Also in cold weather I remember it being tough to get the tape weights to stick and stay, so having a clean surface was important. I buy my tires/ wheels from them also and haven't had a problem but I suppose it's case by case, either way if you've been unhappy with them in the past why do you keep going back?

Look now I've written a novel 😁

You don't seem very bright.

No, your post hasn't worked. You've gained the attention of 2 people. If you were to start a new thread, one that actually had something to do with your topic, you might get some more help.

Also, the term is more commonly referred to as "Web-wheeler".

For future reference, I prefer being called a Douche Canoe. It's much more catchy.

you did miss it the novel. sorry for the novel just trying to be clear. back side of wheel mounting flange. all that you say about the wire wheel on a die grinder is how i learned in auto shop, but only if a lot rust or build up was present. my shop teacher also liked to hit the hub flange with a little paint after cleaning to prevent rust from building in the future. discount used a 3m scuff pad not a wire wheel. wheel was 4 month old. no need for either.

if i could figure out how to upload a photo i would. keeps asking me for url. i dont know what that is exactly or how to get it.

and thanks reading my novel. ill try to keep it short and sweet next time. details.
