Default Camoclad trim accent removal

Anyone familiar with Camoclad? I see lot's of vehicle with trim accents and on occasion have seen an entire vehicle covered in it. In 2006, I covered my rocker panels with it and liked the looks and durability it seemed to have. It held up really well but recently started peeling at the edges and looking kinda shabby. I decided to take it off and get it bedlined. The tape came off easily with a heat gun but the glue did not. Practically none of the glue backing came off with the tape and I had a horrible time getting the glue cleaned off. Every chemical I tried would not would not cut this stuff and I tried many. Short of sandblasting I was really wondering how I was going to get it off and I figured sanding would just make a big gummy mess.

Finally, I found some industrial strength aircraft decal/glue remover at O'reillys that did the trick BUT it still required a lot of scraping and good old fashioned elbow grease.

Just thought I'd give heads up in case you find yourself trying to remove this stuff. It's tough.

My dad keeps telling me about these rubber like wheels they use at his work to remove dot numbers and decals and **** from their work trucks. He says it just erases the glue. But I can't find these things anywhere.

Too bad that stuff started peeling it looked good. Is that stuff just like a decal or what?

It's basically a thick vinyl type decal material and is pretty tough. I never saw the first rock chip in it during the time I had it on. It's easy to apply and conforms around curves and corners pretty well, but real tough to get off cleanly.

So it never chipped the corners just started peeling back? Any chance it could've been your prep? Just curious as I'm thinking this stuff might look cool and different instead of bed liner all up the side.

I think the prep was good when I applied it. It seemed to start edge peeling a couple of years after I moved to Yellowstone and it got progressivley worse as time went on. Extreme weather is the norm here and we get sub-zero temps pretty frequently through the winter. I'm guessing the freeze-thaw cycles may have had an effect on it but that's just a guess.

Cool. Didn't know your time frame peeling after a couple of years isn't too bad... but I don't like doing things over and over again. Specially not unnecessary things like camo decals... lol.
