Post can i have your opinion on altered grilles on an XJ?

OK so i have a 98 XJ sport. Its gunmetal blue, with the black grille.

the grille is in crap condtion, and i feel like a fresh looking grille will make the XJ look so much better. I would like to remove it, paint it, and put some sort of backing on it, but im not sure.

The attached photo is what im going for here. Obviously the one shown is for a GC, but im planning on something similar.

Has anyone done this before? how did it turn out? was it easy? pictures?

and most importantly, will this restrict the necesary amount of air going through the grille?

thanks guys

If it actually looked like that, that would be pretty cool...
But you're posting in the wrong section, lol.

Yeah, wrong section and if it looked professional, it would be sweet. the only thing I really like to be done on the grills of XJ's is the commander headlight swap up front.

Why not do the jeep 2500 front end swap? https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f10/je...on-kit-133637/ Its a bolt on once you cut the edge of the fenders for the headlights or get the 2500 fenders.

I have always been worried about putting anything in there just because mine gets hot enough as it is. The pic you threw up looks awesome though! I did paint mine a few years ago (pic) - it's pretty easy and has lasted great - physical damage haha.

If you put mesh in the openings it will be fine . Don't put anything that would block airflow.
