I'm looking for more lights back there myself,I thought about mounting some in the hatch,so that way when the hatch is open they will light up around the back of the jeep as well.

I got one of those lights out of a chevy truck and hooked it up under the hood. That thing is very handy. I would recommend going to a junk yard and finding one because I promise you. It will be great to have when working at night.

If you decide to go with more than one light you really need to put in a relay. It will save your lights and not let the wires get hot an possibly catch on fire, that would be a bad thing...If you go with just a single extra dome light on the same circuit as the one in the center behind the front seats, the current generated by the extra light will be ok with the current fuse that is installed from the factory. You could also go to your local salvage yard and see if there is an old Cherokee with the extra light option that you could salvage. Then you would be able to get the OEM wiring, plug and light. Just another idea for you.

I actually did this.
I went to the junkyard and got an XJ rear dome light as well as the latch for the tailgate that has the plug up for the relay.
I just glued it to the ceiling. I was changing the headliner out at this time so that made it easier. The plug in was already there for me so that made it an easy hook up.
The latch from the XJ you took the dome light out should have two connections that plug in to some wires near your latch. You will have to take the panel off to do all this.
Thats basically all there is too it.
*Note* the light will work without the latch... just not with the tailgate open. For that you have to swap tailgate latches described above.
...This kinda seems jumbled, hopefully this makes sense. I never took pictures because I thought it was common to do this... I thought there was already a write up. So if it helps I will try to take pictures of the stuff if you need that for help.

what i did was found a rear sound bar, they came with the factory light, and reupholstered it added to my sound system at the same time, the wiring for the light/stereo is down the driverside C pillar. just remove the plastic trim and plug it in =] looks factory, gives a great deal more light and there is no, gluing, cutting, modifying anything-plug n play

i ordered these with some guages and now the interior is lit up like a x-mas tree, i put 2 on above the rear seat, 1 in th cargo area, and 2 on the lift gate for when i'm fishing. i just pop out the regular bulbs from the factory houseing and i can run these for a very long time with no worries cause they are leds!!! last fishing trip i had the light on for 4 hours and the jeep started up without any problems.

That is exactly what I would do, except go to Walmart or Home Depot. No need for wiring or fuses or anything like that - which I'm lousy at anyway. There are several out there that give very good light and since you don't have the light onalways, the batteries should last a good while.

I mounted a set of "driving" lights I got at walmart that were on my wife's 97 Blazer.. (I took them off when I sold it).
I mounted them on the upper trim using the two outside holes (or perhaps the 2nd set of holes). I wired them to a toggle switch on the dash. They can be aimed out the back glass or if the hatch is open you can rotate the down to see inside the cargo area and have an working area outside of the Jeep.
I will try to take pictures...
