ok...in the first picture, is the condition it was in when i found it. second pic is after i riped all the rotten wood off so it was just the frame. I plan on sand blasting it welding in more supports and maybe a metal grate floor and making it real nice.

Looks to be a relatively old tandem axle trailer with some type of hydraulic surge brakes.

I'm sure someone here will know something more..

Was hoping you found an old Military M416 or something cool..

oh man that would be awsome!! ya this thing looks like it was made to haul some weight tho. its cacked in cement so i guess it was a cement truck. I found a place online that sells cheap parts for it but i wonder it its even worth it.

Don't get your hopes up too far on the weight it will handle. Those axles are OK, but I would not put over 6000 GVW on them, and that would be pushing it.

If the axles are wide enough you could add some wheel ramps and a little bracing for a lite car hauler. JMO

I have considered to make it a little wider, possible another foot or so, but i dont think ill be hauling over 6000 pounds thats more than a car. this will be used for getting wood and moving stuff around and possible for some roofing materials. it would probably see 2000 most the time. I will need new leaf springs, lighting, brakes, rims(i might use my stock xj rims) wheel hubs, and stuff like that. Im just trying to calculate the cost in my head. Its save for a lift kit and all the fixings or the trailer then the lift kit.

www.abctrailerparts.com

Alot of people report very good transactions with this company. They have the trailer axle i need to order for my trailer project eventually.

In your pics it looks like you have the necessary bracket (dont take my word though) to bolt on electric brakes.

should i sand this thing down and paint it or could i use some por 15 right on top of the rust. If i did just put por 15 on top of the rust would it keep rusting through?

Well if you get rid of all the flaky stuff POR-15 does a decent job of stopping rust. I used it to do my front and rear axles and its been 5 monthes and the paint hasnt flaked off or anything leading me to beleive the rust stopped. Just make sure to clean it the best you can. With something that big it might be quite a project.

ya im still considering overhaluing this trailer...but i really think it would be cheaper and easier to get a comanche bed or the back half of a cherokee and make a trailer out of that.
