seriously.....

there are several types of VHF, amateur HAM, Marine, Commercial and Emergency.

however im in canada and from what i understand the rules vary a lot between here and the USA

Lemme put it this way. Marine radio VHF frq. cannot be used on land. FCC tracks that... especially since I live near the Everglades here in Florida. HAM you can get a license for. Emergency is well, emergency.

Call me old fashioned but I find that my CB is useful not only on the trails but I have it on when I'm traveling long distances as I get the best traffic info off the cb.

I love mine. I'll turn it in cruzin down the hwy n talk to the truckers. But I'm a country boy so I couldn't live without one. And ya up here when we go wheelin, no cell coverage unless u got one of them old school bag phones that could get service on mars

Oh to respond to the OP. I'm fabbing up something similar for my jeep at the moment as I'm sick of magnet mounting my antenna everytime I want to use it.

yes nothing beats the CB road reports when your traveling those mountain passes, get basic road reports,wait times and where the cops are hiding
