A lot.... If not most of the guys that go off roading regularly have a CB in. their jeeps. I don't go off roading all that much but I have a CB waiting to be installed in my jeep today with the exception of the antenna cuz I'm waiting for a custom antenna mount made by another member of the forum.

Like said most people who offroad have one, there very good to have. Even if ur rig is stock or not if u plan on offroading then a cb should be one of the first things you should get, doesnt have to be expensive or have a wickd far range, a 5-10 mile range is usually the most you would need.

Very very popular and useful in wheeling. Only a few people I wheel with do not have one, and those people wish they did.

Typically I like to run the CB power wire directly to the battery and the ground wire as close to the CB as possible being screwed to the body. The antenna position depends on the individual. Some like it on the roof, hood, bumper, or off the tail light. There is a ton of info about installing a CB and properly mounted antennas in the internet and in the forum. Search search search.

The CB is great for the 2-3 hour run to the trail head and camp areas with the group on the road. Not outlawed like our cell phones. You can always let your TB run the CB to keep communications thru the goup. On the trail no better way to keep in touch with situations and keep the group from getting too strung out or bunched up. I find best deals on equipment at truck stop locations, ex. 5th Wheel, monthly specials, ariels, mounts etc.
The ideal singal location is not always the most convenient. As I am not too fixated on distance (still get up to 5 miles) I mounted ariel for convenience and the CB for access (encroaches on the passenger leg room). I have a retro Cobra 29 LTD backlit in the XJ, Cobra DX19's in ZJ and the Libby. Libby gets best reception with the top of roof mount antennabut most prone to overhead clearance risks. I like a spring at the mount for survival of the antenna. An auxilliary speaker on the dash points at me and clarifys the voice without need to over volume the radio.Think about what works for you to plan your setup. Lots of older CB's available at good prices. Goolgle the new stuff or local stores to see new prices and you can then tell if the used models are a good value to you.
