Has anyone put in a newer console in an older xj. I have a 91 and want one from a newer one that has cup holders but I dont know about the parking brake. What all needs to be done to make it fit?

There is a plastic insert you can buy with cup holders that fits into the space in front of the parking break... My dad bought one for his '87 MJ.

the shifter on the newer 1's (assuming its an automatic) are angled back more. making it more comfortable. i have a 01 shifter in my 88 and i do not plan on going back to the stock one.

Ya its an auto. So its just more of a comfort thing not really a need? As far as the big gulp. I have the stupid cup holder that just slides between the pass. seat and the console and my girl friend is all pissed about it cuz it takes up some room on her seat and its a pain to get your seatbelton. Plus I let her drive and I had to sit there and it sux. lol

my jeep didn't even come with a center console. I can't find one for less than 70 bucks either. I just joined the forum today though, hopefully i can find somebody who wants to sell theirs for cheap money...good luck man, gotta have those cup holders

here a great link, with pics of the 97 swap that I have used in the past, worked out awesome, my donner was a 94 grand cherokee, with the same cup holders, if you decide, make sure you grab the duck work and the side mounted e-brake.
