Check out this prototype
In the 60s and 70s I followed a lot of the Pontiac concept cars. They were always trying to push a 2 seater but GM wasn't going to allow them to compete with the Corvette.
I missed this one but by the 80s I had traded my wrenches in for a keyboard and tie. I would've bought one of these and wonder how much of an impact this would have had on the Jeep market had Pontiac mass produced these.

They got two seaters, but like you said nothing that would compete with 'vette. The Fiero and Solstice both have their places in automotive history and weren't complete flops. The Fiero's downfall was the times and horrible performance numbers, but the Solstice GXP is a performance bargain even today.

The problem with the Fiero was fire! My ex had one that her dad bought for after her friend got one. Both went on fire at less than a year old.
