I made the air intake hole about twice the stock size. I also removed a plugged hole in the radiator firewall just in front of the air intake hole. My thinking was that after opening the hole in the radiator firewall there would be a more direct airflow of cooler outside air. Not sure if this will cause a problem later but for now it seems good. If anyone has any input on this it would be great.

It might hurt while doing a water crossing, if you do any of those.

I don't see why they plugged that firewall hole in the first place, it was open on my F150 obviously to let in more/cooler air.
I'm also thinking about wrapping my air box in insulation to try an deflect some heat, don't know if that would do anything, also, I would think that hood vents would give a hp or 2, that would be about 40-60 degree cooler air the intake would suck in.

PICS...

With K&N you are paying for the name.

I have been wondering how to rig the stock box to work with the new cold air intake.

Lol is it Halloween or something? The dead are walking the Earth...

My lifted 6.5" lifted, Stroker XJ gets about 15-16mpg highway. Up to 20 if I go easy on the pedal.

My stock XJ gets 25 pretty consistently on the highway. Sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less.
