Cherokee biuld thoughts.
So I'm going to basic in a few months and when I get back I'm going to build a badass Cherokee.
I'm fine with either 97+\-. But not a remix. My question is just strictly coolness speaking would y'all think an ls3 would be cooler than a 4cyl cummins. Price isn't a factor. And both will be expensive equally I'd imagine. Anyone have experience with either swap personally? And would you think it'd be smarter to just do the swap on a yj? (due to the availability and fab amounts)

Honestly i wouldn't use a 4bt on anything lighter then a 1/2 ton truck. Its 700lbs which is big block chevy weight,The stock jeep line 6 is 500lbs and a ls1 fully dressed weights about 460lbs.If you want a rock crawler a front end heavy jeep would be a hairy ride down hill.A ls swap on a xj would be easier then the cummins http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/xj_swap.htm

I like the LS motors but plan on replacing the entire driveline. Axles and tranny aren't going to hold up to the power they make.

I'd go LS, 4L80, Atlas, built stock XJ width HP60, built xj width 14b, frame stiffeners front to rear, cage, 12k Warn winch front end rear, 5" lift, 40" LTB's...
Hey, you said money was no problem...

Well the cummins is out, I don't want huge tires I'm thinkin of runnin 4.5 or 5in with 33"s. what if I just modded the hell out of the 4.0? Would it still get alot of power compared to an ls? I'm talking bored, ported, new cams, different injector setup so on so on. My goal is to have something that will haul *** if I want it to, and there's all these threads about supercharges and turbos but has anyone actually done it and got enough power out of either to make it worth it?

Appreciate your service. Where are you doing basic at? I'm ex Army, unless your AIT is lengthy don't believe your recruiter. You won't be sitting on a bunch of cash when you finish training. Even the damn enlistment bonuses can take a bit of time to get. Oh, and if you don't mind what's your MOS?

You will never get LS type power out of a 4.0 without forced induction and even then you will need forced induction on a big stroker with a big cam that will make it all but useless offroad. Power will be peaky.

ls motors are junk.... i am a service advisor at a gmc dealer. yeah, read the magazines they all put gnarly power down to things they drive for a week, put reliabilty into the equation.. straight garbage.
i would stroke the 4 litre and go from there.

It comes down to how much power you really want,A v8 swap is a big job and your replacing half of the jeep in the end.And how are you going to use the jeep?daily driver rock crawler trail truck ?
