I drove my xj with just a cat for a few weeks, and yeah it was loud (I didn't think it was ticket worthy, but unfortunately an officer disagreed , though I don't think he'd have pulled me over if my registration hadn't been dead), BUT I didn't notice any mpg loss or power loss other than maybe a little low-end torque... maybe. Also no check engine light.
So I guess the effect of the muffler varies from xj to xj.

Power?
Does pullin the plastic venturi tube from the air tube at the air box really provide a measurable increase of airflow to the throttle body, does it result in a measureable performance improvement?

Ok, ill start looking into these.
The mpg test will come first. And the dyno test will have to be later as I will have to recruit test jeeps

When I got back to school the following monday, I grabbed the diagnostic computer and plugged it into my obdII port to see what the fault code was and it was the catalytic converter sensor. After I installed my muffler and dual pipes, the check engine light turned off. Weird I guess

I took a welding class last year and it was the last class before the teacher who was a vietnam vet, retired. Tons of cool stories, and I learned tons from the man.
You live in indy? My dad lives near south bend! Haha
Youre lucky you get 15-17. my stock 92 gets that but I don't drive it much since I don't live with my dad and it's parked in his garage at the moment haha
