The really sad thing about this abuse of environmental terminology and ideals is that we will pay this bill in the end. The bill will go unpaid by the owner of the jeep. So then his insurance company will have to pay it and then use this as an example for raising rates to all their customers. If the insurance company does not pay it then the tow company will write it off their taxes as a loss and we the taxpayers will be paying this outrageous and purposely inflated bill.

Funny around here we have the issue of farmers thinking they "own" the minimum maintenance roads. I had a farmer put a barbed wire electrical fence on the road i used to go mudding on. (public road i checked before i wheeled there) Its impossible to do any real wheeling here unless i drive 5 hours west and hit up the black hills trails.

What i want to know is did the towtruck get the land owners permission? and did the powerline company take steps to prevent people from entering their property? Did the powerline company sue?

There were some light game land trails out by my college and one oil company trail that was gated off but had an easy access water crossing bypass. I never trespassed on their property even though i could of been easy because I knew it wasn't right. I'm sure the driver knew what he was doing wasn't 100% legal.

only reason i ask is some leave the road to public use. if there was no marked "private land" or "no tresspassing" signs there is the chance he didnt know it was a private owned road

Private property. Trespassing. Cops. A contracted tow company. Some BS charges, some more reasonable. An electric company not taking steps against preventing trespassers? No lawsuit that I know of. Insurance companies were working it out.

Ignorance isn't an excuse so it's irrelevant.

The prices that the tow company charged are ridicules as well. I could have pulled that jeep out in 10min a couple tow straps.

But then you'd have been trespassing too.

true, but were there any trespassing sights? Also, the power lines shouldn't make a difference, the property I wheel on(my friends owns) has power lines all over. You can see the pole in the background of the pic I posted.

Im not saying it was right for him to do that. or that he shouldnt face the consequences but if he didnt know "something we might never know" then the charges should be a little less severe

Dunno if it was posted. Be surprised if not though. Totally agree about hazmat claim. If working in the proximity of power lines makes this so then I'm owed some serious back pay.

But this is not how the law works. I don't agree with the charges myself; this could ruin the man and all for what? Wheelin? That doesn't add up and I suspect the need to pursue this with legal action is his only option. This could cost as much as he's being hit with now, so now you have to sue for compensation and deal with a comanies lawyers. A knockdown dragout process causing higher legal fees meaning more compensation and an even lower chance of success for you.. ****ty, but a good opportunity to gain something from someone else's loss..

They're trying to shut down wheeling spots. There's a very popular spot near me and recently sheriff's went out there and towed a bunch of vehicles for trespassing even tho there's no signs. Now it was on the news saying if you go out there then your vehicle will get towed or seized

Well I certainly don't agree with the police making errant decisions and towing vehicles when a simple "not here, boys" would suffice. But, that land is owned by somebody, whether a private citizen, bank, etc. so I wonder if the land owners called the cops? I mean, if the cops are anything like here then they are bored and looking to harass you for little to no reason which again, total bs!
