Cherokee vs Xterra - whatchoo think?

Wow, that X posted above is pretty sick, but I bet was spendy as hell for all that stuff.
That said I am a Nissan Fan(I had a '97 Altima before my XJ that I owned for 10 years and replaced nothing except two alternatorllll in it at college). And I had also looked into buying an Xterra before I went with the XJ. The Xterra was so heavy and expensive in comparison to the XJ that I couldn't resist the jeep. Now after owning mine for almost a year, you'd have to kill me to make me get rid of it. It dominates the NE Minnesota/NW Wisconsin snow we have and it is so cheap to fix. I do like the looks of the Xterra, but the XJ is simply classic. Just looking at mine I have memories of abusing my uncle's XJ in high school or my roommate's my freshman year at college, or my old friend/boss's at the tv station I used to work at(we'd go drive it around the antenna farm in Duluth).

. I loved my xj. I got rid of it after 7 years (only had 125k) on it and I am kicking myself now. At the time I didn't know too much about trucks or wrenching...I easily could have fixed the truck for cheap. But I didn't know and sold it off for dirt. Now I know much more and built the rig you see in those pics myself. Oh well, hindsight is 50/50. I guess its ok cause if I kept the xj I wouldn't own an awesome Xterra .

you get a locker and some paper thing skid plates. but its also a lot nicer DD VS an older XJ. plus then the XJ is broken he can still go out and wheel

So I did the math. I could have modded roughly 4 XJ's to the gills with the money I spent on my rig (including it's purchase price). lol. I do not regret a thing tho. I get some awesome looks while driving the X around. cmon, when do you see a rig like that? that and maintenance is minimal on it. (2007 with 85k on it).
to the XJ guys, the only thing drawing me back from getting one as a trail rig is the unibody. How effective are the unibody reinforcement/plating kits that are sold for these rigs? The first thing I would do if I got one is swap out the D35......

well i think if its got 4 wheel drive then who cares what kinda truck or suv it is. just dont build it up so you can crawl the malls in it lol. pavement princesses **** me off.

Sure! Couple people were referring to doing things to Xterras thought I'd share.

Oh and btw. The X pictured wheels better than most things I've came across on some trails. At least better than bought, thrown together Jeeps with the driver lacking skills. That better?

I just want to know when? I understand it's stronger and should articulate better but...
I have the same size tires as my friend with a Suzuki Sidekick so our rear end clearence is basically the same. Up front he has IFS and goes right through deep mud and ruts that I get stuck in all the time. I also have a front locker so I pull through stuff other Jeeps cannot but still I'm not on par with the sidekick. I feel my front axle dragging all the time, and then I get stuck while he keeps going.
This makes me feel like the solid front is not as good for mud unless you have tires big enough to need the added strength.

When it come to mud, there are a bunch of variables. Thickness, weight of vehicle, wheel speed, momentum. To name a few.
