but, we can't forget that the OP does have something to loose. his parents could go either way once they see that he went behind their back.
you have a valid point, since you've already done it this way and had favorable results. but, most parents won't react the same way that yours did.
for them, it's not about the jeep. it's about respect. parents aren't always smarter. they do some things just to see what kind of a reaction their kid is gonna give. or maybe sometimes they're just in a bad mood.
whatever the reason is, I think you should have a bit more respect for people that wiped your behind, before you could do it for yourself. and by "you", I don't mean YOU in particular, just a general statement.
having said all of this, what do any of us know? we are not the OP's parents. it's his ride and his risk.

And while youre probably older than I am, Im certainly no kid...well ok, maybe a 28yo kid...Punk kid at that, hence the reason all your authoritative bull**** dont fly well with me, just like the attitude of azxj99's parents.
How is the poor kid, gonna experience anything, if hes kept in a frickin bubble!?
Reminds me of some cousins of mine, who live safe & boring as hell lives.
And I dont think I will ever "grow up". I will assume responsibility as it comes (like kids), but I will never grow up....that s*** is way too boring, vanilla, & cookie cutter for me.

thank you, by the way for an adult approach to my opinion. well, we all love our XJs and we all love to wheel it. so, everybody's hope is to see another cool looking XJ in our lines. my first suggestion was to show the parents how much cheaper lift parts are compared to stock replacement parts.

If you or your Dad can drive a stick...
And if your Dad is up to it, bring him buy the house (south phoenix-not a scary part tho) and take mine for a drive.
Mine is lifted ~3", on a flexy suspension, wears 33" tires and looks like h-e-double L, however mechanically it is A-1.
It handles well enough I never hesitate to let someone drive it, even if they have never driven a Jeep, let alone a lifted one.

If your parents want to pay for it then let them. It will give you a good daily driver until the time your parents agree that you can lift it. Til that time Save up so you can get a bigger lift and bigger tires. I waited til i was 19 to get my first jeep due to my parents said anytime after 18 its my vehicle I do what I want. I followed that rule and now hav a jeep

Wow a lot to reply to. First I don't live in a bubble and I'm disregarding a lot you say because I respect my parents and they respect me. I may hit up the s phx test drive soon. Bumpers. We will talk. Back to the original start of thread. I would like statements on how persuade my parents to let me install a lift that I purchase because I do all regular upkeep and diagnose all problems. I'm not asking for a statement saying go behind their back and do it or anything other suggestions. thank you for input

Like i said before, patience and dont bug them to much at once. I asked at first, bugged em to death and go no. 2 months later i bring it up once or twice a week and now ill hopefully be ording 4 inches of lift this month. Just take it slow. Youll think of what to say soon enough.

wow, i'm glad we're back on the subject for a change. how about doing some trial and error. have the conversation, and then let us know what the tone of the conversation was. what was their reason for saying no, how did they react when you said that you can make it more stable with offset wheels... you know, that sort of thing.

I think the offer from the member is s phx is a great idea. I think that you're taking a very mature approach to this, and that will go further with your parents. Keep us posted!
