Default Cummins 4BT in a Cherokee?

Anyone ever done it? I've got one along with a heavy duty Allison auto. Thinking about putting them in an XJ or MJ. Got a buttload of wiring too. I did a search and nothing showed up. Maybe I did it wrong. If this is the wrong place for this, please move it.

Yeah they are. It was in a fullsize GMC ext cab longbed 4x4 that commited suicide in my buddies driveway. Rolled off in neutral and smashed into a tree backwards. Didn't hurt the drivetrain any.

well i know there has been alot of talk. But its gonna be ALOT of work from what i hear. Going to need frame stiffeners, larger axles, heavy duty springs, im sure your gonna need to do firewall and tranny tunnel work, then ofcourse the usual wiring stuff.

If you can i would suggest do it! would make one badass rig

I've got a completely gutted 89 MJ and a 91 XJ that was rolled on it's side. Trying to decide which one to stuff it in. Firewall and tranny tunnel will be getting the crap beat out of them to get the Allison in there. Just wondered if anyone had done it to give me any pointers on it.

If I was going to do a diesel swap.
I would swap in an Isuzu Diesel engine.
I've used them for years in Thermokings and its basically the same engine that Isuzu used in the Trooper.
I would consider adding and a Turbo to it for added power.
Its never going to be power house but it will be reliable for YEARS and YEARS. I got one with 40,000+ hours on it.

Its light enough that the stock XJ axles and springs can be used.
Second thought would be a Mercedes diesel,or even a Kubota from a Carrier unit. I got an extra one of those.

It has been dune do not remember the tread but a video was posted of its maiden voyage. It was sick. But yes frame stiffeners would be suggested then some bigger axles. I would just do a 44 front and 9" in the rear. depending on tire size you could get buy for a while on stockers if your cairfull. As for coils I would run F150 out v6 cause although it is heaver its not that much. Could be wrong but if it is then run ones out of a v8. They fit but are stiff so choose wisely. Love the idea and please do a build thread.

I say MJ because you can use just the cab and build a frame for it to sit on

If you got the cash to burn, this the route I'd go.
Turbocharged intercooled 125HP Diesel including tanny and xfer case I think...
I love that in a XJ.

I know where there is an Isuzu diesel from a little cabover GMC. Guy wants $1500 for it, tranny, rad, and all wiring. I think it's a turbo. Got the 4BT for hauling the truck to the scrapper. Buddy was super mad and wanted out of his sight. Figured it might be a nice engine to stuff into an XJ. Took a bit of work with the Bobcat to get it loaded after lifting the engine out and stealing the rears.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I may sell the Cummins and get the Isuzu since it will let me run XJ axles.

Gonna be awhile before I can get started on it. Gotta get the 2 door finished first, don't have enough room for 2 projects at once.

iv heard of people dropping this motor into ford rangers and xj's but i say you throw it into the mj! just cuz it would be onne of a kind and totally wicked!
with full widths and 38s

i mean any motor swap thats not whats already in that style vehicle is a good amount of work but it can be done and in the end its usually always worth the time and money
