i dont think the width changed much if at all im not sure how much i would want for it yet ? but also there is a xj d44 at the pick n pull in oroville ,ca which is closer to you than chico and i would have pulled it last weekend but the spider gears were all blown up they would prolly give it to ya for a good price i know whole axles go for $180 so for the housing and shafts im sure they'll lower it there pretty fair there they usually have a ton of grand cherokee's and exploders with rear discs for the brake swap

alright well let me know. well if I'm redoing the entire housing anyway that would be a good deal at the picknpull
was there something wrong with the shafts? or just the spiders
sounds good tho I might go pick that up next week
oh yeah and you wouldnt happen to know anything about d30's would you?
wanted to pull an hpd30 from a 97-99 so I dont have to worry about vacuum disco failure. thoughts on that?
and can someone install gears/lockers for me without putting it under load? (take both axles in empty and uninstalled so there's no downtime on my DD)
are d30's c-clip?

no d30's are not c clip the shafts are held in by the unit bearings that bolt to the knuckle and you dont have to pull the whole axle from a 97-99 there all the same from 92 i believe up till 99 or whenever they went low pinion ? you just need the axle shafts from a 97-99 with the big u joints im pretty sure xj's with abs had the big joints too !
and my buddy said theres a guy in sac that will set gears for $100 an axle if you take him just the axle with the shafts pulled and everything and you buy all the stuff gears/master insall kit /locker or carrier im pretty sure its a guy of pirate 4x4

is there any way you can get that guys contact info
also, I was reading an article on another forum. something about 95-99 being the more desirable hpd30. something about a vacuum disconnect weak point
but I've never heard of that issue before

ok after more research..
FRONT::
hpd30
95-97 axle shafts with 760 ujoints
replacement shafts/ujoints
4.56 & master install
detroit full carrier
blue torch homefab diff cover
REAR::
xj d44 disk brake conversion
ujoints?? or are the OEM ones good
replacement shaft/ujoints
4.56 & master install
detroit full carrier
blue torch homefab diff cover
am I forgetting anything?!?
and what will my weak point be? I want it to be shafts and ujoints becasue those are cheapest/easiest correct

what year is your xj ??if you have a big hump on the long side axle tube with a diaphragm looking thing and vaccum lines going to it then you have it everything 92 and up i believe didnt come with the disconnect crap and had bigger brakes heres some good reading for ya
https://sites.google.com/a/jeepinwv....w-d30---change
and if youre sinkin that much money in a dana30 you should atleast get a selectable locker arb,e locker,ox or some sort of kit to have locking hubs
and why even mess with btf diff covers you live right next to ruffstuff suport you local economy

thank you! I have not been able to find a d30 tear down and specs for the life of me!
I have a 93. I was checking out this (not considering buying it)
and it says 95 and newer are the ones without central axle disco

I'll find out when I tear down my 30 anyway

I reallyyy wanted an e-locker. but front and rear thats $400 more than 2 detroits and then battery and install
I dunno man I figured I'd be ok with double d's
if anything I'd downgrade and get an aussie up front
do I just run a greater risk of breaking something with a detroit?
I could make plans for locking hubs in the future. something like these?

I just dont think eaton is in the budget

SO....your worried about the strength of a tried and trued 8.25 good to 35's but your more than happy to run just a dinky d30 when there are lots of swap options there...bad research man...if your super worried go to currie and buy some RockJock 44's or 60's come all loaded up[ with whatever gears or lockers you want and fronts are direct bolt in for a rear you would need to weld on some cshock mounts and leaf spring plates which is easy as heck
