Death Wobble Musings.
I have a 97 zj with death wobble and I have thoughts and would like to hear others thoughts. I bought it with about 200 thousand miles because "them there 4 leeters are bullet proof." (They are, it's just everything that's bolted or connected to them in any way is not as bullet proof.) I love it though. It's the only vehicle that I have had that I want to keep forever.
When I bought it, it had tiny little street tires on and no death wobble. I lifted it 2 inches the easy way. (I know, I know.) Bad death wobble. I installed 30s, then there was no death wobble. If I lower pressure to about 30 psi it wobbles when I'm going 40 mph on washboards or if I hit a pothole with the right side. If I speed up or slow down I can avoid the wobble.
I probably just need to go through the front end because most of the bushings are shot at this point but that seems like that could run into a lot of work. I can live with this hospice wobble I'm just worried that it will get worse on a road trip or something.
Was Chrysler just poor at designing front suspensions? 2nd Gen Dodge Rams are notorious for this as well. I know all solid axle vehicles are prone though especially when they get modified.
Anyways thanks for reading and I would like to hear your experiences with this monster that plagues us.
