I have two Cherokees. One is from 1982 and the other is a 200 model but as an example, my 1982 Cherokee is designated the Cherokee Laredo and I'm told the Laredo designation refers to the 2 tone seat covers and possibly a few other trim changes.......... So I guess it's a Jeep Cherokee Laredo but not a Jeep Laredo.

How's that for confusing!

Oh and just to confuse matters even more. I understand this model was marketed as the Wagoneer in some countries and the Cherokee in others. It's almost as though they just slapped on whatever badges they had on the shelf at the time and then gave it whatever name the badges said. LOL!

All that said, at least Jeep had the good taste to retain styling similar from generation to generation.

Goddam! That thing is beautiful! I would kill to have one of those lol

Kind of you to say so.

The car spent the first 29 years (or so) of it's life in Africa and then I shipped her to Portugal when I emigrated so she's hardly even experienced a frosty morning let alone a salted road and I'm only her 2nd owner since new so she's had a lot of care and attention and those things of course have really paid off.

Used car values here in Portugal are through the roof and in Africa, she was worth around US$7500 but here, she's been (twice) valued at around US$40000 so she's also one of the best investments I've ever made in my life.

That is awesome. Take good care of her and for the love of God don't sell her! The only value I'd place on her is priceless.

She's not for sale at any price and I love her dearly....... but I have so say my wife doesn't feel the same way and she went ballistic when I told her I was bringing the Jeep with us as part of our migration to Portugal!

She's still whinging about the shipping and re-registration costs 18 months later. LOL!

Lol. Women just don't understand the bonds that can form with vehicles.

Ain't that the truth. She's hated that car from the day I bought her about 12 years ago and has always sworn she'll give the car away to the first person who knocks on the door after I croak....... and the really weird thing about it is there's no logical reason for her to feel that way.

The car has taken us on many safaris in different parts of Africa and the only breakdown we've ever had was a broken alternator bolt that I fixed in 10 minutes flat!

Still, whoever said a woman is logical! LOL!

Safaris? You lucky lucky man. I'd love to go on a safari but the travel cost is so expensive.

The memories alone should make her love that vehicle though. Maybe you need to gather up all the pictures of you, her and the car and make a little 'memory movie' for you two to watch. Just discreetly throw in pictures of the vehicle and maybe she'll remember all the good times lol. I know that whenever I had to depart with a vehicle the memories I had in it made it harder to do.

FWIW, in the UK there only seem to be 4 Doors, no 2 Doors or Comanche. Engines are 2.5 Diesel, 2.5 Petrol, 4.0 Petrol. Automatic gears seem to have been option on the 4 pots, standard (compulsory!) on the 4.0.
I've only seen UK Cherokees with the 242 TC, never the 231.
There were three special editions I've seen, Stealth (all black), Orvis (nicer leather, including door cards and more wood trim, rear spoiler!! with a high level brake light) and the 60th Anniversary model which has heated seats. I'm not sure if the special editions came with LSD at the back as standard, but quite a few UK Jeeps had them.

I'm just reporting on what I've seen from browsing a LOT of adverts recently..I could be wrong.

'91 Laredo with the 4.0L, 5 speed, all power, cloth interior, 2 tone paint. bumpers and end caps painted to match the flares and lower body, full cluster. The lower body also had this goofy looking plastic cladding (no pics as I pulled it all off and tossed it out right after I got it) D30 up front and a D35 out back. 231 T case. Aluminum OEM "Jeep" wheels

I was involved in the safari industry for over 33 years and I guided safaris in seven African countries and although it didn't make me a fortune it gave us a living and a heck of a lot of fun and good memories. got my last 4 next year and then I'm retired from the field.

She has tons of good memories of Africa but none of the Jeep I'm afraid!

I guess I'll have to ask to be buried in it so she can't give it away to some undeserving so and so! LOL!

I think some came with tow hooks / hitch and others didn't.

I have a 1996 sport, no power windows / locks and no OEM recovery points.

Towing Package and Offroad Package could be added to anything, though Towing Package mandates an automatic tranny and UpCountry included skids and armor.
