Default Do you know YOUR Cherokee's history?

Interesting.

I bought a report from AutoCheck and found out my Cherokee spent most of her life as a leased vehicle. She was owned by 2 dealers before me, she passed hands through an auto auction then was auctioned to the dealer I bought her from. (thank god she was never a rental!)

I bought her in January of 2004 and have had her ever since. Poor girl never really had a TRUE owner until me.

Well....... anyone else care to share?

Yep, well as much as Car Fax will tell you. Which is quite alot really. # of owner, smog test history, reported accidents, recall status, even services, at least those reported to the tracking Cos.

Here is what I know, I am too cheap to buy a car fax but if you want to buy one for me you can. Anyway I am at least the third owner. It has been in florida for most if not all of its life. The owner before the PO was a smoker/hunter. The PO used it as a truck to haul stuff around to all of his rental properties. He spilled paint in the cargo area and also sprayed the interior with a hose to clean it. I also know it was at one point sold by a dealer but I dont know if that was when it was new or if it was sold as a used car. I probably should have kept the sticker and called the dealer to see. Yep thats all I know.

Mine was a government vehicle down in maryland then a local dealer picked it up and i bought it. I like to think that the guys down in maryland babied it and never beat on it but who knows.

Interesting thing about my Jeep is that I have 2 different CARFAX reports for it. For most of the Jeep's life, the records were kept with the wrong VIN number, ever since it was new. It wasn't until I bought the Jeep that I fixed this. The only issue was two of the letters were switched (records showed 1J4TF instead of 1J4FT).

Here is records for 1J4TF:

02/13/1999:
Mileage: 5; Source: California DMV (Hawthorne, CA); Comments: Odometer reading reported

03/05/1999:
Mileage: Unknown; Source: California DMV; Comments: Title issued or updated. First owner reported. Loan or lien reported.

02/14/2000:
Mileage: Unknown; Source: California DMV (Hawthorne, CA); Comments: Title issued or updated.

02/10/2003:
Mileage: 29,567; Source: California Inspection Station (Inglewood, CA); Comments: Passed emissions inspection.

02/09/2005:
Mileage: 43,666; Source: California Inspection Station (Inglewood, CA); Comments: Passed emissions inspection.

06/14/2005:
Mileage: 45,800; Source: California DMV (Hawthorne, CA); Comments: New owner reported. EXCEEDS MECHANICAL LIMITS TITLE ISSUED. (CARFAX says something about odometer rollback, but I don't see how that would be possible, all the mileage readings seem consistent. I think it has something to do with the wrong VIN number thing, though).

02/03/2007:
Mileage: 72,190; Source: California Inspection Station (Inglewood, CA); Comments: Passed emissions inspection.

06/18/2007:
Mileage: 76,732; Source: California DMV (Victorville, CA); Comments: Dealer took title of this vehicle while it was in inventory. EXCEEDS MECHANICAL LIMITS TITLE ISSUED.

That's the end of the wrong VIN number recordings. I printed this CARFAX quite a while ago, so there are only 2 records on the right VIN number:

Here are the records for 1J4FT:

07/16/2007:
Mileage: 76,752; Source: California Inspection Station (Riverside, CA); Comments: Passed emissions inspection.

08/11/2007:
Mileage: 76,783; Source: Service Plan Co.; Comments: Service contract claim Vehicle serviced.

That's from when I bought it. My Title is clean now, in case anybody was wondering.

got ours from the original owner who was definitely not a do-it-yourself'er. He had a spreadsheet a mile long and a big fat file folder full of receipts for everything that had ever been done to it. Repairs, oil changes... just about everything other than filling up the gas tank, LOL

I bought mine new from a Jeep dealer in Raleigh. At the time they had 3 two doors on the lot. I talked briefly to the sales guy then left. I came back a few weeks later and they were all gone. The sales guy checked their inventory just in case they had something out back and 1 of the 3 was there with a SOLD sign on it. I guess that sale had fallen through and they hadn't put it out front again. I paid invoice for it and it has been by DD and travel vehicle ever since. I was pretty fortunate. That was the best vehicle purchase ever.

I'm the second owner of mine. It was purchased new in '97 about 40 miles from where I live now. One owner, clean Carfax, registered on time every year, no accidents. Owners manual, aftermarket deck with manual and remote as well as everything included on the build sheet present and accounted for (full size spare, spare cover, cargo cover). Added bonus, she had just replaced all five tires. Score!
