Obviously it's not a total solution, but it definitely deters people. People are less apt to mess with your Jeep in general if they see them.

When I lived in a house in a ****ty area of Richmond near all the section 8 housing my neighbors cars and apartments used to get broken into all the time. I had NRA and a couple gun stickers on the Jeep and I left used range targets on my front door. Never had anyone try mine.

Obviously it's not going to stop someone who really wants to get into your vehicle, but it can definitely be a good deterrent for most.

^ that's funny leaving the targets out.

Im more worried about going into a Walmart at night.... Parked at the theatre to see a movie.... Stuff like that.
I don't think people would come to my house, my neighbors have a lot more out in the open than I do.
I used to drive a service trick and it seemed like once a month some jackass would either mess with the equipment or steal things out of the bed. Buckets, long bars and stuff. Hell one guy got a welding lead off the rig.

I built a storage drawer in the rear that can only be opened with the hatch up, and the only way to open a locked hatch is with the key! It is also carpeted so you cant tell there is anything in the back by a quick glance. I live in an appartment complex so i was very concered about theft.

Mine sits in the garage unless it's beeing driven, but I also have an imobilizing alarm system for when it's parked. I don't have much on the outside, but inside are expensive tools, HAM radios and whatnot. Some easilly seen, some not. Only had 1 problem before I added the alarm, but that was mysteriously <yeah right> right after having rims mounted at Wally World without cleaning the rig out. The day before a business trip and the same day my daughter totalled my truck. The totalled truck got put in the garage until I got home, so the XJ sat in the driveway.

On a day to day basis my onboard equipment is under the dog mats in the back, out of sight, and out of temptation to impulse grab and runs. A pro thief will get what they want anyway. The Peep locks don't work anyways so I don't go overnights to the big smoke city. In my small town, no park and grab problems when you don't tease the fewer degenerates that are bound to exist with easy glitter.
When the pooch is riding co-pilot, no problems! I can leave anything in the truck, cooler, phone, bags, even keys. The Peep is clearly signed and identifies my trail buddy is in charge of entry and rider approval. That lock ammo box mentioned in the thread is a great idea. Even the pro thief won't waste time on anything that isn't a quick access.
