Is this on an earlier style XJ? If so the hinges should have 2 holes in the body of the hinge. I've seen guys run bolts through them to attach mirrors.

Good luck on getting them torx bolts out I broke 3 cornwell torx sockets on mine lol so I just cut the hinges and used 1/4 x 1/2 long bolts for pins it works great, and here long as I have a rear view mirror on the windshield its legal

1. you will never ever get your doors to seal right ever again if you do that.

2. I got mine from Pepboys it was like 5 bucks and has a bolt hole so it will mount to the stock hinges

3. I thought I'd just share that with you..

Since its a 98 you can't pin them anyway Lol so carry on! but its a pain to realign them to put back on too just paint the hinges or magic marker so you can get them close when you put them back on

X2 on the seal part...If you have older style doors just cut the bottom hinge...I started out replacing the torx and it turned out to be just as hard... its a pain to unbolt em and line em up each time you take em off, just mod the hinge and youll be in better shape IMO.
