Never seen a double din in a stock dash. I know it can be done in a 84-96, but not so sure about a 97-01. I know you can put in a flip out tv, my cousin and buddy both have them in their jeeps which are both 97-01.

that guy in the video did a hack job. i would say just cut the bottom of the dash pieces like he did. but then make your own brackets to go into the original screw holes that way you can sit it all the way to the top and eliminate the dash kit to fill in space.

If that's the YouTube video I've seen its trash (im on my cell). I've seen a very clean double din install where the bezel was modified and molded. My plan was to take my double din to a audio shop that gas someone proficient in fiberglass. Ill let them modify, mold, and paint. Just about anything can be done on the xj with either skill or money.

I saw that same clean install Nick. The guy trimmed the bottom edge of the heater duct and removed the protrusions on the lower corners of the stereo hole to make the head unit fit in. As I recall, it was in there pretty snug. The new fiberglass cover set it off though. No way in hell I'm doing some amateur hack job to my jeep just to fit a double din unit. But that's just me...

Wouldnt be a hack job if he would have just matched the lines instead of just cutting out enough for the double din to go in. Use a dash kit to fill in the rest, would look just fine.

The clean install I am refering to, he used a chevy dash kit if I remember correctly. If you can find a good glass guy, the XJ will be a walk in the park. When I get mine done, I don't want to see a dash kit.

Fiberglass isnt that hard to work with. If you take your time its pretty easy to do on your own. Only part of fiberglassing it is I dont like the idea of having a painted interior piece. Seen too many painted ones flake, both plastic paint and not.

And if you cant hear it, it needs to be louder! I've got 200 bucks in my audio system that would cost over $1200 new. Craigslist is your friend

Lol if you just get some kicker ds 6.5's with a decent head unit you'll hear Ol' Hank loud and clear Lol im not into just bass, i want to hear the vocals and all. Sweet child of mine at 55 will make your ears bleed The tvs are nice unless you get the off brand ones that cost like 100 bucks. Those are literally straight garbage, I'm sure that's not what you are referring to tho. The tv's just arent good for subs, other than that they're nice.
