Default Was this a dumb idea?

Alright, got bored the other night. My XJ was sitting in the garage. I had nothing to do. Looked over at my shelves and noticed I had a can of brush on rustoleum flat black. Then I proceeded to grab my drill and a wire brush and started knocking tiny bits of under body rust. I have undercoating on the jeep already but there was surface rust at seems and on the floors. So i just started painting up the old rust areas with tons of rust oleum. Did i do something dumb that I should reverse right away or was it an alright Idea. I wasn't really thinking when i did it so it contributed to poor judgement i guess. also just to add, it's a temporary fix for right now until i get some KBS undercoating.

its not a bad idea. probably not the best way to go about it though. But from what i understand is you just painted over the light surface rust? if so it should be fine. Rustoleum has some rust fighting ninjas in it to fight the rust.

BTW nice sig. i love it

Thanks for the feedback! It was pretty much "yeah I'm only going to paint my surface rust and nothing else" and then from breathing in the paint fumes for over an hour, it went to, "Hey, lets totally paint the frame and everything even though it already has undercoating, added protection!"... i'm not too proud to say that but i did it. It looks good right now, beats the look of even my mom's new dodge! Thanks also for the compliment on the sig, it's true my school is LOADED with rich kids who drive those things. I'm gonna start a towing service and advertise around school to make a little money this winter hahaha

I did the same thing when i had a water leak, just pulled up the carpet, dried it, a little light sanding and primed and painted with rustoleum, better than waiting to see what rust could do on its own ya know.

Yeah, its not a bad idea just to help control the rust a bit. However when you get a chance like you said re-apply some type of undercoating. Although rustoleum is pretty strong it cant handle heavy road debris. Also x2 on the sig. At the comm college its either BMWs or clunkers. Out of about 1000 cars in the parking lot at any given time only about 10 end up being cherokees.
