wow. this is comical.
http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/...low-data.shtml
#50169: Flow Numbers as tested by Edelbrock's SuperFlo SF-1020 flow bench @ 28" H2O
Valve Lift .100" .200" .300" .400" .500" .600" .700"
Intake 66 123 179 221 241 237 -
Exhaust 63 103 127 144 151 155 -
stock GM lsx heads in 2001 were flowing more than that. with 2 less cylinders.

It should be pretty obvious that is not a product for everyone. It's a specialty item for engine builders that are trying to squeeze every bit of power our of their motor.
Bashing it as overpriced is foolish. Just because you (in general) can't afford or justify the price for whatever reason does mean that it doesn't fit the bill perfectly for someone else.
They wouldn't have made 'em if there wasn't some demand.

You missed the point entirely.
YOU might think it's foolish but others see it as means of adding more power. Add it to a stroker and you get more HP & Tq.
Some people build on a budget, others build for the maximum gain in output.
It's not stupid, foolish, or a waste. It's a product that fills a need, apparently not yours.
Bashing something you don't want or can't afford is silly.
Again, if there wasn't demand for it, Edelbrock would not have built it.
The same can be said for superchargers, turbo's, No2, or any other power adding device.
JeepSpeed builders are going to love these.

I'm sure people will buy it. But they're still foolish to drop that kind of money into a stock engine for that kind of increase. I think forced induction on a 4.0L is foolish too.
I understand the side you're arguing, I just disagree wholeheartedly and I find this whole Edlebrock thing to be a joke for the 4.0L. We saw how many people were excited for this and to see if it would offer anything awesome for the 4.0L, myself included, and now with the specs out, you can see not only from myself, but from others commenting, that this is not going to be as popular of a hit as once thought.
Happy Easter, Frank!

The every bit of horse power statement really doesn't hold water. You can have a better flowing head for less money... I have a built stroker and would be down grading by going to this head. Unless someone is just a big edelbrock fan or aluminum fan it missed the mark.

For everyone else, I think it's safe to say this thing was a disappointment. There's nothing wrong with expressing that disappointment, especially after the hype that preceded it. And who knows? It might even help someone who doesn't need this or who could get what he needs a lot cheaper avoid a costly mistake.
Bash on!

I saw the head in person at pri in indy. it didn't look like there was much more to be had with porting. the reps at the booth didn't know anything about it or give a damn. that was enough for me to write it off; regardless of performance. if hpt ever releases the jtec stuff it might make this head more appealing.
products like this are appealing to those ignorant of engines. which, sadly, is the majority of buyers.

Which reminds me: Does it come with a valve cover with "Edelbrock" cast into it so that people who don't know any better will have something to point at when they pop their hoods for their friends?

Head flows Significantly More ported than Any other flowed ported 7120 head out there, and more than hesco head.
I know I have one on my TJ. It was fully ported and matched to a int, and such. BUt the #'s on the same flow bench comparing Hesco, 7120 stock and then full port and polish job, edelbrock stock, and then same full porting and polishing as the 7120. The edelbrock flows more than any of them.
Now does it make crazy power, no, the head cant do that alone.
Is it worth the $1200 plus crazy amounts of work and $ for machine work for custom springs and valve seat work and porting etc. Likely Not. But I like it...

Blah Blah, logic and world economics.
Really? Remember, this is a Jeep thing!
There are no strings on the purse. There are no boundaries to spending.
Edelbrock made this intake so that someone like RWKHause can create a work of art that jeepers want under the hood.
This product is not for all budgets, but it is on far more wish lists and without dreams we wouldn't have gotten involved with Jeeps in the 1st place.
And PS, some one with a brain at Edelbrock needs to rip the golf shirt off marketting noobs backs and kick buts of the reps at Indy for not having product knowledge or interest in customer inquiries, not even a spark of intelligence to take customer information and offer a follow up. That's my only disappointment in this new head.

I can't say much....I put a lot in to my YJ's engine build...it was built by a shop that is very well known located at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway...
Just the roller rockers were over $500...
so as serious off-road said bashing something you can't afford or don't need is silly...someone will buy it... I may... I think it's silly running 33 - 35's with a budget boost, open diff's and stock running gear. But I don't criticize those doing it... It's what they like or can afford.
Suck pump blow... Air in air out...
My yj 4.0 is...
Ported
Polished
Bored
Balanced
Decked
Ceramic coated header matched to the head
ceramic coated intake, matched to the head, machined for the larger diameter throttle body
Adjustable pressure reg with larger injectors
Performance distributor with Scream on demon coil, rotor, wires
Roller rockers
Cam
Hi flow water pump / thermostat / and hi flow thermostat housing
The list goes on....but it's built the way I like it.
It's great sharing new products and ideas.
