Default Exhaust opinions

Well its time to put exhaust on the XJ and i want every ones opinions on what to do. Im goin to be replacing everything from front to back. First is the header= Ive been looking at a few like the JBA and the Banks but both are pretty pricey. I want good quality but i dont want to have to pay an arm and a leg for it either. As for the muffler I always figured i would just put a flowmaster on it but im kinda liking the magnaflow? What do you guys think? Also should i dump it or keep it out the back?

Moved to Chat.

Make sure your motor mounts are good, otherwise you'll crack your new header.

Because honestly keep stock headers if not cracked and up grade your muff. Dont waste the money...if your trying to get big gains this wont do it you will spend 600+ just for 3hp and 2 mpgs

A new downpipe without the crush in it would be very beneficial.

well the manifold gasket went bad so i have to replace that any way but the ol girl has about 170k miles on it and i just figured it was time for some new stuff. i know im not gonna get big power out of it. i was thinking more along the lines of getting heat out of the motor faster. yes i will def replace that junk smashed in down pipe! haha

Did you have to modify your flow daddy? Mine was hitting the intake on the last tube...had to modify it with fire and a hammer!

Flowmaster drones and will crap out in 1-2 years because its aluminized steel, it is also a resonated chamber design that is much more restrictive.... Magnaflow is polished steel and will last much longer, plus it is a "straight-through" design that flows much better and is less restricitive then the FM. There are reasons the Magnaflow cost just a tad more then the FM. Only thing going for the FM is the rumble at idle, above that it gets whiney and loses the shape of its sound. The Magnaflow is quiet when you want it, and loud when you want it; the FM is loud all the time.

-Though, if you get a resonated chamber type muffler then go with Borla, hands down the best all around muffler. But it costs 2-4 times as much as a Magnaflow.
