exo build
Im going to be digging in and building an exo skeleton and rock sliders after hunting season is over here in wa. I have a ton of 1.5in schedule 40 tube and some other sizes and a bender. Also have some 1.5x4 tube for siders. I was wondering if anyone has any helpful information or in site. Do's or donts. Its a 1990 4 door. Already built a front bumper for it. Rear bumper will also be in this project.

DONT weld steel directly to your uniframe. it will fatigue and eventually tear. plate your uniframe well before tying a cage and sliders in
DO use triangulation. don't do a bunch of squares and end up with dead tubes
DONT do a full exo. please make at least part of it internal (an X behind the two front seats bare minimum)
DO a fukkton of reading http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/jeep-...e-tie-ins.html

Thank you for that info. I have been thinking of a way to tie it to the unibody. Ill look up plating it and find some god ideas. I did plan a system that goes behind the front seat and behind the back seat as well.

HREW is another option. I'd do it for a full internal since the body will be ruined in a roll anyway. But HREW exo won't take a lot of rock abuse
Didn't notice the poop pipe part. That would go on the DON'T list

Schedule 40 anything = pipe
A cage should only be made of dimensional tubing.
Pipe belongs no where on a jeep especially when someone is intending to use it for a cage that could save your life. It doesn't matter how much you got for free. We are saying don't do it because its just plain stupid to waste your time doing it. The whole point of a forum is to help people when they ask questions and keep people from doing dumb things.. so if you don't like the the help you got.. that you asked for than you are free to leave. You seem to already have you mind set on doing it so why did you even make this thread?
NOBODY would condone this! Plain and simple...
Harsh? Maybe but if it keeps you from following through with this idiotic plan than I've done my job..

Maybe u are willing to risk your life in your poop cage.... But it's time to start thinking about others. Are u gonna risk other people's life just cause u don't want to spend money on proper material?
