Well if he's alone in the woods whoever finds the wreck friends, family, or search and rescue please post pics so others will be warned.
Sced. 40 is used for natural gas pipe in your house. That's where it belongs.
Structural value next to zero.

That's the first time in my 50 years on this earth I've been called disgraceful.
Just scrap all that crap schedule 40 and use the cash on proper material.
Free crap is still crap.

Have to agree with the advice everyone gave him. I will most likely be doing exo this winter with the help of friend that builds race cars. gonna be expensive but well worth it for the protection of my kids.

Schedule 40 anything = pipe
A cage should only be made of dimensional tubing.
Pipe belongs no where on a jeep especially when someone is intending to use it for a cage that could save your life. It doesn't matter how much you got for free. We are saying don't do it because its just plain stupid to waste your time doing it. The whole point of a forum is to help people when they ask questions and keep people from doing dumb things.. so if you don't like the the help you got.. that you asked for than you are free to leave. You seem to already have you mind set on doing it so why did you even make this thread?
NOBODY would condone this! Plain and simple...
Harsh? Maybe but if it keeps you from following through with this idiotic plan than I've done my job..

gotta disagree with this just a bit... and most posts to an extent... schedule 40 can be used in many locations... tube doors... rocker steps... fender protection... tire carriers... stuff like this its plenty strong for... it will take SOME beating... ive seen it... as for protection for your life? NO... it is not good to use to keep you alive in a bad rollover...
HREW is fine even for a exo cage... a real hard solid smack on a rock will bend it but its easy to cut out and swap new in... ive seen many done and hold just fine... i WOULD use this and feel fine and safe with it on a major roll over... however that rollover will be the vehicles last... it will not make it through another serious rollover more than likely... If you plan to roll many times and keep on going then yep... DOM's the only option... if you use the right design...

you guys are all missing the point to an exo.
exo is for protecting the body, somewhat, not so much the passengers.
interior cage is where you want it done right.
when i do my exo, it's not gonna be dom, that chit is too expensive. i will use hrew and that's only because i want to protect the jeep from too much damage if i flop. it's not gonna be a high speed vehicle, i putt down the trail below 20kph tops anyways. any faster than that is just dangerous to myself and other trail users.
sure i drive it to and from the trails, but i'm never going faster than the posted limit.
no, i won't use poo pipe, but if it's a dedicated trail rig driven by a responsible driver, it should serve it's intended purpose for some.
who here is gonna use dom for their cages, just what i thought....
