A few lift questions.
I've been reading this forum for days about doing a lift. I'm trying to figure out the best option for a 2000 XJ. I don't see myself ever going into anything crazy or any deep mud or anything. Just some offroad driving on hard packed roads or trails. No rock crawling. Probably nothing that I'd even need a lift for. Also, something that's good for driving in the snow for a little extra clearance.
I am looking at a 2" to 3" lift. I love the way it looks as well. I'd like to get some new rims and 30" to 31" BFG All Terrain tires. From reading this forum, I am seeing the OME lift kits recommended a lot. I'll go with that just based on all of the positive things I've read about it. Whatever I do, I want to do it right. Not just a cheap lift kit. However, I don't see the OME kits for sale in many places. The only one I can seem to find, is from Quadratec and it's a 1.5" lift. Anybody know where I can find a two or three inch kit? I'd really like to go with three inches, but I want to keep it really streetable as well. It is a daily driver. What do you guys think about that? Should I stick with 2"? If I went with 3", am I going to have to drop my transfer case or get new brake lines? Thanks for any info! This site is great!

If you go with three its gonna be hit or miss about the transfer drop. They all act differently once you install the lift so you would just have to see. Some folks say you need it but there are a slew of people running without it. I dont have one and ive been running 5" of lift for a while now in trails and on the road. I prob will do it eventually though.
As for the lift, i would go ahead with 3", cause if you dont you will wish you did!

Rusty's Offroad makes a 3'' kit. Good price compared to others. I run a 4.5'' kit from them, no problems. As for the tire size a 30-31'' is plenty of tire for a 3'' kit. Can't wait to see it!

I have a 3 inch lift from rustys. good price. easy to put on. I have tires 265/75/16 and they fit well. if you did a 3 inch with 30s or 31s it would be good. just check my build in my signature

and mine is my daily driver with 3 inch. I was in the same position as you. I wanted a 2 or 3 inch lift for a daily driver. might as well go 3. you will be happy with it. I looked at OME but yes they are hard to find. I found the rustys offroad cheaper 3 inch lift. you should check that out.
Also no need to drop T-case or brake line change. My buddys got a 3 inch too. no problem with it.

all you need with a 3 inch is the lift and an alignment. 31s fit best under a 3 inch proportional wise in my opinion. Mine is GREAT for a DD personally i think every xj should have came factory with a 3 inch lift and 31s, dont go with a 2 inch, its not as noticeable. I was gonna get a 2 inch but decided 3 and im very glad i did. OH and for OME lift, try Rockyroad.com. They're sell lots of OME stuff

Thanks for the advice! You guys have me convinced to go with a 3" lift. I especially like the looks of Cfarr's ride. That's what I'm looking for. What's up with Old Man Emu? I guess they don't have a website? Why are the parts so hard to find? Also, should I go with the light, medium or heavy? What's the difference? Thanks!

I hate to intrude on your post here but I am in a very similar situation with my 98 xj. I am looking to lift it 3 inches as well and I was talking to a guy today that warned me about something to do pitch angles and something about the yoke or the drive shaft? Was wondering if anyone could help me or knows if this kind of stuff even applies to a 3 inch lift. Thanks!

It does not apply to a 3 inch lift, but around 4.5 inches the angle of the drive shaft can cause very bad vibes, that is when pople put in a SYE, a slip yoke eliminator. But at 3 inches there SHOULD be no problems, there are always those weird cases.
