Get rid of the back seat to create more room for spare tire, tools, camping gear and many other more important items.

Since you just got it i would do a full tune up and change all the fluids so you know its all need and ready to go.

This. Start by doing preventative maintenance and upgrade what you can while you're doing it.

The mods you are going to do is going to be a lot of personal preference because everybody uses their jeep differently.

yea throwing it on the lift tomorrow and I can already tell this will be the first of many Cherokees

These should be at the very top of your list and if not sure of all of them you can find the answers here. Might as well set aside a few extra hundred bucks at least if you don't have any issues (most do).

:bad bushings, leaks, cracked exhaust manifolds, rusty floors. then move on to the fun stuff.

Since the op ask about Cheap Upgrades and not preventive maintenance ....if you want real cheap re-do all the interior lamps in LEDs. Cost Ya $20 tops and it looks cool. Next Id clean up all the rust and body dings. Good matching OEM paint with primer and clear coat $45. Upgrade el cooling fan $60. Sound system basic including speakers and a decent head unit $300.
Yes the unit should look good and have upgrade functions but it may as well sound good. Too

cowl intake is pretty cheap, did mine for about 20$ ( not including the filter since i decided to get a K&N drop in replacement.

budget boost is pretty cheep, spacers/shackles (although i would recomend a quality lift
led interio lamps are an awesome, i got 5 small panelt for super cheep of ebay, LED dash lights are easy and cheep to unless you buy some fancy bulbs

I like the cup holder idea and definitely need to work on the interior and a few rust spots and yea don't cheap out on the lift

Preventive maintenance is top of the list,He bought a used jeep only god knows when something like a fuel filter was ever replaced on it.What good is doing upgrades if it won't start next week on him?
