Ive done it, With my prior setup. And look at my picture in my post above, I currently only have a 4.5in setup now and look at the amount of droop My rear axle has using a stock leaf pack with a IRO aal, another stock XJ main leaf cut under my stock main for added support. RC Shackle relocation kit, and 1.5in shackle for lots of swing
With out the aal it sits about 3-3.5in with my same setup

BTW Its less wear on you spring pack this way. Inverting the packs over compressing shortens life heavily.
When it comes to flex some uptravel is nice but droop is the name of the game. Keeping all 4 wheels on the ground and the truck closer to level.

Then purchase 1.5in lift shackles, and also purchase a shackle relocation kit from HD enginering or Rough country. Assemble with a 35-45 angle with static load. Enjoy having one of the few Xj's with actually flex that no kit on the market offers.

My front is nicely bumpstopped, But with my rear setup has had a issue with inverting. I have my stock bottom leaf(tow/overload leaf) flipped over so during uptravel by the time the pack flatten out fully, it is stopped by the overload. So in my case no bump stop needed. But in most cases I would recommend testing flex making sure leaves dont invert, if the start to invert then buy/make bumpstops.

id say it all depends on how saggy you stock leaf's are i got around 4.5" with the boxes and shackels and beefed up springs im clearing 31's with no problems, my jeep kinda looks funny cuz i have 3" in the front and 4.5 in the rear but it works for now
