Default Flowmaster or straight pipe

I'm wanting to re do my exhaust and put a flowmaster 44 on it, I'm looking for something to give it a nice tone and make some noise. Any one got any advice?

there won't be a direct bolt in, figure your pipe size for in and out, and the offset and look up universal. I went 50 series on mine and it's perfect, loud enough but not too loud.... it's a 6 cylinder and I'm getting old.

I meant to ask, what size pipe are you looking at running? I want to plug for http://performance-curve.com/jeepkits.aspx
I was very happy with the quality

Straight pipe not only sounds like ****, but also makes the gas pedal feel like your stepping on a wet sponge, bog-o-matic.

Unless you've hot-rodded the 4.0 quite a bit or it is a stroker, 2.25" is ideal.

For a frame of reference when choosing your sound, here is mine. Listen to this kind of stuff with good speakers/headphones. Listening on a cell phone or crappy headphones/ear buds is a waste of time.

304T stainless Thorley header
409S stainless downpipe that a local shop fabbed for me (even has less extreme bends in it than factory for minimal improvements in flow).
409S stainless spun cat almost identical to the linked Thunderbolt (mine is by AP)
409S stainless Flowmaster Super 50 Delta Flow muffler
409S stainless tailpipe fabbed by local shop

The pipe is all compression-bent 2.25".

You can only get so much "sound" out of a straight six, not really going to get what your looking for with straight pipe in the place of the muffler.......I did put a glasspack on my 96 Cherokee a few years back, because the muffler had a hole in it and I needed to get through inspection.....hardly made a difference..LOL

I just cut my muffler off and put a turn down tip on then cat. Close enough, practically free, and if you don't like it you can still put the flowmaster on later

I agree and by no means is my 4.0 a hot rod ( ) but I have done all the bolt ons and intend to eventually set it up for a cam in the spring and maybe stroke the first time I have to rebuild the engine. Not as good of quality but something again for reference.
