I ordered the super 44 yeasterday!! also bent a new tail pipe at work. hopefully my bending skills are good enough to work. I decided to stick with the stock size of 2.25 instead of going to a 2.5 muffler and pipe. does anybody know how long of a pipe I need to cut to take up the gap between the muffler and cat??

I wanna say 9.5" if I remember corectly. And tha includes the length needed to go into the cat and the muffler. I would wait til its all in front of you, that way you can do a correct mock-up.

I've had the 40 on two of my Jeeps this time I'm going to go with the borla exhaust system its the full cat back kit for 350 but if I was you I would go for the 40!

Thanks! I have a piece of pipe im going to use that is about 2ft long. But I will cut to lenght when I get everything up.

I was thinking about the 40 but I didnt want it too loud and from what I was hearing the 44 isnt as loud as the 40. so the 44 is in the mail right now. I think its sapposed to get to me tomarrow so Im excited. I love doing upgrades!

Sweet deal I got mine off a friend for free. But it had a 3 inch center in and 3 inch dual out and I just blocked off one side

I got the muffler in my jeep yesterday and it sounds great! Its exactly what I was looking for deeper idle, sounds great under easy and hard acceleration, driving around town sounds good, and on the highway I barely even hear it. Thanks to everybody that helped me make my decision I really do appreciate your information and your time!

I really enjoyed the 40 and the 44 when I had them, but the only thing I didn't like was the fact that the sound kinda dies off after 3500rpm's. I like a muffler that stays loud throughout the rpm band, and the 40/44 lack that. Having run them for years they are great mufflers, but it's all about what you are looking for.

Which one did you get?
The only way to hear a muffler throughout the rpm band is to buy a staight through muffler. Like a dynomax bullet, slp loud mouth 1, magnaflow magnapack or a borla stinger. I like to hear through too. But I would. Get old after a while.jmo.

Bumping an old thread but have a quick question. It appears I need a 2.25" center inlet / 2.25" offset outlet for my stock 2001 Cherokee. I just wanted to confirm this since Flowmaster's site doesn't show anything for 2001 and other websites show the Flowmaster 942447 only up to a 98. Thanks.

I believe it you need a 2.25inlet center and a 2.25outlet off center. You will need to a piece of pipe to make an extension to reach from the cat to the muffler since the overall length of the super 44 is shorter then a stock muffler. I used a 2.5 inlet/outlet but I made my own tail pipe out of 2.5.

I have the flowmaster 40 installed and don't really care for it. I actually bought a dynomax turbo exhaust off amazon today to replace it. The flowmaster on the xj just doesn't sound right IMO, it's loud but not the sound isn't low enough.
