X2 my 2000 just hit 170k miles and I'm fine. It's definitely cheaper for preventive maintenance tho than to fix something that breaks...

Seems to me you are looking for a newer XJ (like I was) so that things like emissions issues are less likely, you get a nicer interior with more creature comforts, probably less worn, and hopefully fewer miles. Dude, it is YOUR MONEY in the end. If you want to/ can spend a little more $$ to get the XJ YOU want, why not? Especially if it's to be your daily driver! I'd put a stop to the rust in those roof rails with a quickness. . I agree with the " not every '00 and '01 will meet the cracked head fate" theory. I'm much happier to see you looking at this one rather than a salvage title!

Yeah the rust will be stayed and touched up asap if I get that. I'm gunna say I have $5000 and see where it goes from there. If the price is lowered enough, I'll probably buy it.

Also, what axles does it have? I don't think anyone verified my guess.

Look at those other ones I showed you before you decide on that one for sure. Just to make sure you aren't missing out. The other one that was similar in price looked better in the pictures and it might not need new tires.

I definitely want sienna pearl, red chili pepper, or gunmetal pearl tho. I've seen them all- trust me I've been stalking Craigslist haha. But thanks. I plan on buying BFG 32 A/T KOs anyway.

That's the plan of action. I don't think I'm gunna let the 00-01 0331 scare get me. Thanks for all the help. And thanks for the axle verification!

Lol at the Haynes, it has sections where it tells you to just "bring it to a certified mechanic"... I'm like then why the hell did I buy this book ?!
