Thought id post about this because I am pretty upset/ashamed to have this happen. The other day I was running late to work was going a little too fast and ended up almost spinning out (unmaintained snowy road) and caught myself aimed towards a parking lot, ended up bucking into the corner of a brick pillar. Everyone was ok but I was very distraught considering I realllly love my jeep.
Anyway to get to the point my passenger and driver side front "frame" rail is pretty crumpled and the crossmember is all out of whack. I was driving it around after (until I lost all my coolant due to a new leak) and noticed no change in my steering. the crumpling only seems to be at the very front of the unibody. I was wondering what you guys think what the right thing to do would be, I'll probably see if I can get a quote to get it fixed on a frame rack tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this kind of thing and how they resolved it.
hopefully a shop can pull that back out. it's gonna need some working with heat and a frame puller.
it's all due to that front bumper. it's quite a large, heavy bumper for the stock 3 hole mounting points. for a bumper like that, it must have tie ins that spread the mounting surface further down along the frame rail. you wouldn't have as much damage, if it had them.
it wouldn't hurt to beef up that front section, once you get it pulled out, and weld on some longer bumper mounts to that bumper. or find a different bumper that's built for the job it's intended for.
