any comment on rim size? I'd like to keep it small right

So you, like ktmracer are going to be sporting 4cyl power with all that extra weight

see you at the bottom of the hill

capability isn't all about weight.

gears make up for much of the lost power, plus you have a larger contact patch, less rolling resistance, more clearance, better approach/departure/breakover angle etc.

its not like every type of wheeling is simple, dirt hillclimbs.

I really like the krawlers but I heard the blue labels arent that great and it's hard to get your hands on a set of red labels

krawlers, rockers, and creepies seem to be the best tires out there. the kevlars are sweet but I'm not sure how I feel about a directional tire
i'm on my third set of creepy crawlers. They are an amazing tire. and never pay what an online site is asking. You can always find them cheaper if you call around.

i found my 37x12.5b15's for $303 each, and my 38x13.5b15's for $203 each, both brand new. My 38.5x14.5b16s were used, pretty beat and on beadlocks, but i got them for a pretty good deal too.

where do you call around to? I have never seen anyone carry the creepies except 4wp. but then again I haven't looked. maybe I should jump straight to the 40x13.5x17 creepies then? then I will need to go back and upgrade my front 60 again. bummer that the 14bolt is only limited to 5.38's

the 2 times i bought them new, they were just some obscure tire place i found through a google search

both don't carry creepy crawlers anymore lol.

I can only assume they were liquidating them at cost to get some room in their warehouse without knowing what they were really worth. (or something along those lines) they weren't blemished tires as far as I could tell.

that was another option. some 40" km2's would be sweet. some of the JK experience guys drive their rigs to the trail on way over sized tires and tons. cant be too bad if they do it to their rigs right? but km2's in that size are just as pricey as the others. not sure yet so I'll put the tire selection on the back burners for now. I'll probably end up with whatever I can find on CL at first lol. but I'll get 17" beadlocks so I can recycle them through years of tires

thanks for the help guys. now with 40's in mind should I go straight to complete chromos and CTM ujoints? or just the yukon stubs with spicers and lockouts and a light foot? or RCV's

Just curious if you took into account the money needed for the reinforcement needed to run axles of that size? Just something to think about since I saw you were trying to get money figures together?

I just checked out your build thread. you have done some extensive fabrication wow. if you're referring to frame plating and such, yes the frame will be fully plated and hybrid cage will be built all before the axle swap. steering will be drilled out and sandwiched also. it's all a separate list and separate budget from the axles and tires

Imo anything larger than 35s on an xj is not the smartest thing in the word. Yeah you can plate the unibody or you can get a vehicle with an actual frame and it will be a lot easier to build up.

there is nothing wrong with building a unibody on big tires.

frames break and bend too. You have to strengthen them in key areas just like a unibody if you want them to last.
