Default Fwd?

Im new to Cherokees and just have a question. When I put my truck in 4hi and 4lo its says on the dash its part time. Is that jeeps way of saying its in 4hi?

That's Jeep's way of saying, "don't drive with this engaged all the time."

Unless you have a full time option on your shifter (Np242 transfer case), you have no center differential and no way for the front and rear axles to travel at different speeds when turning like they would need to on dry pavement, e.g. all wheel drive.

It's old school 4wd and should only be used in slippery or offroad situations, hence the "part time"

Your driver side sun visor may still have the original label explaining the transfer case shifter positions and limitations.
