power and sound will get you out of your driveway at best. but i think most of us have already made it that far. the thread is not about training, it's about exhaust. if you want your opinion respected, then respect the other people's opinion. the OP said, he wants a specific sound, so give a good, helpful opinion. nobody likes hearing that their upgrade idea is stupid or obsolete. especially after endless number of threads on exhaust upgrade.
Cool.
OP, let me know if you get that "V8" sound. Which, well, will be .....never. But I tried to suggest a better avenue for your money. Granted I am considered by most to be an "old timer", but point taken. Everyone want's what they want out of their Jeep. The OP wants "tone" out the exhaust. Might I suggest a tuned exhaust, similar to a pipe organ? You might get the tone you are looking for. It might take some time and trimming.

Okay guys. I don't want a v8 sound. And I need a new muffler so why not get one that will sound good. So if you can't help me with picking a mucked than don't post in this thread. But if you can help me then please chime in! The help is much appreciated!! I am considering the flowmaster 40. What about magnaflow?

The older I get, and the more miles I drive, the less I understand loud engines of any sort.
The best you're going to do under any circumstance is have a vehicle that sounds like the most awesomest mail delivery truck in the state.

Got it. OP wants "glam". Not function. Which is where a Cherokee does not reside. CORRECTION: I saw a Cherokee with 22" wheels here. Okay, "glam" has been set as a precedent.
Cool.

Also, some basic reading would've told you that he originally said doesn't want it to sound like a V8.
I'm also calling BS on your theory that a XJ on stock suspension with 235's can outperform the "worlds most tricked out rig." Maybe if you're "wheeling" in dunes or some mud it could hold its own... but when it comes down to it, minimal ground clearance, stock tires, and no flex will not get you over obstacles, plain and simple.
I love ignorant folks like yourself who associate ANY Asian car as "rice".

gentlemen, gentlemen. let's not loose the point of the thread. exhaust.
i think the biggest misconception in most e-conversations is thinking that the person that you're talking to was born last night. i'm sure that the op didn't just buy a stock XJ off a lot and decided to put a v8 exhaust on it and wheel it.

Im not a fan of the way borla exhausts sound, especially on a jeep with a 4.0. I run a flowmaster super 40 series muffler with 2.5" piping and a banks header and it sounds awesome to me. Has a low rumble at lower rpms, and is more than loud enough at high rpms. So far as the 350z sound, its never gonna happen in a jeep. Haha. Sorry.
Well it did, actually I just made that comment because several people said that mine sounded similar (not exactly the same, being that the jeep is a inline 4.0 and the 350Z is V6 3.5 liter) to a 350z.
And as for the comment about why do people want to make their jeeps sound good, well, why the hell not? The 4.0 sixes are capable of makeing decent power with a few upgrades so why shouldnt they make a little noise especialy if your stock exhaust is trash anyways? These jeeps with exhausts make an awesome rumble when creepin over rocks and obstacles in low range.

And to the poster calling BS to my stating what I did, hey, I did it because of training and putting that training to use. You couldn't do it, apparently, hence the "BS" call, anyone that has a decent amount of actual training, coupled with experience, knows lift and power means nothing if you don't know how to REALLY use it. That's okay. 20" of lift won't help if you really have no idea how to use it in the first place. It's called "trail reading" and "picking your path", and knowing what your vehicle clearances and abilities are. Trying to just power straight over everything = busted rig.
But I digress.
First of all, how is upgraded piping and a higher flowing muffler not function???
