For a teen, a four-banger XJ might be a good deal
We passed up on one last fall although it would have been a good local driver.
I like the Selec-Trac (NP242 with full time option) so far. It's gone through some pretty muddy roads this spring without any sign of tires spinning. The vicious (ha!) coupler is transparent, at least I haven't been aware of any lag time before it "locks" up.
