i luckily live in Florida where 2nd amendment rights are not trampled on a daily basis but i digress

Yeah, i guess i can see the humor in it. Just hit a sore spot with me. Gun laws are screwed up all over. My opinion is its the cops that should be behind bars. Anyways, i like the idea of putting a rack in the side window. I've thought about it. Myself, i usually carry my pistol on my hip when i'm in the boonies, and the shotgun usually only goes camping with me. I have my CHL, but prefer open carry. Wonder if we should start a firearms thread per suggestion? Ideas?

Even if you don't have guns for whatever reason, a gun rack is cheap and useful addition to keep things handy and/or free up space. Fishing poles, coats, hats, umbrellas, baseball bats and even firearms have seen time in my gun racks over the years. I live in the country and having a firearm sittin' in the gun racks isn't a big deal even to law enforcement. However, I never make things easy for a would be thief to jack my firearms by leaving it displayed if I'm going to be away from my vehicle for extended period of time. All my windows behind the front seat are dark tinted so you can't really see much unless you're up close. I don't have gun racks installed in my XJ yet but my pickup and blazer have them. Couldn't live without them...

been wondering this same question. gotta mossy 12g id love to haul round but aint gotta rack. done been stopped by MO state boy, after running my mas plates and seeing i had a shotty. after looking it over, complimenting me on the gun, told me that as long as i got the barrel face away from traffic and unloaded, i could carry it anywhere. anyone done a police style shot gun mount if i cant get a rack.

I'm all for haulin the boom sticks around, but the kid has a sawed off 12G, which has no form or function other than extremely close range damage. a "survival tool"... easy there Mad Max.

hey i set it up with a sight ive shot it now a few times i get adequate groupings @ 50-100 yards i kept the stock complete so that i could aim it i just hated the 24 inch barrel. my groups are fine with 00 and slugs i could drop a buck if it was all i had. look it isnt my browning blr i cant drop a deer @ 300 yards but thats not the point. also if you read the original post i cut the barrel down to 18.5 the same length as my remmington 870 hunting shotgun. given the rem is rifled and the h&r is not but i thought it would be a cool way to revive a throw away pos shotgun. also i dont feel quite comfortable with a $1000.00 dollar gun in my truck were it to be robbed i would be pretty pissed. a free h&r topper is a perfect cheap boomstick with verry little attachment. i just feel my every day carry is a bit small for game (h&k usp 9mm compact).

I would definitely put it somewhere away from prying eyes. Someone with a screwdriver and alot of ill intent might find your xj to be an amazing find at a good way out of a bad situation. Just my 2 cents

A cheap shorty works as well as an expensive shorty! And yes, the range isnt as short as people want to believe. My shotgun is lethal to the same distance as my pistol, but its a hell of a lot easier to hit the target.
