For a quad yes....to pull a jeep.....no way!!! HF has bigger winches, but they cost more money. About the best bang for your buck light duty winch is a smittybuilt XR8.

FWIW a buddy of mine has the HF 12K winch and I've seen it run impressively on more than one occasion.

Not sure I'd drop $500 on one but it goes on sale pretty regularly for $400. It's worth that.

rule of thumb i always go by is when buying a winch allways be at least double the weight of the vechicle its going on

hf winches are junk and rust out internally, for just over 300 you can get plenty of good winches. Don't cheap out. The first time a winch saves you , vs renting equiptment to pull yourself out if you get really stuck or paying a friend to come resque you, will more than pay for itself.

A friend made more than his winch costs pulling people out of ditches when it snows. Just saying.

These winches were part of a large test of fourwheeler magazine I believe. They did HORRIBLE.

Anyway, I wouldn't even put that winch on my fourwheeler. I have a superwinch 3000 lb on my 99 honda foreman (a little over 500lbs) and I've had two incidents where it WOULD NOT pull me out. Took either a jeep or another winch to do it.

Id rather buy a USED good brand.

Just remember, you get what you pay for. When you use a winch, you need it. More importantly, you need it to operate correctly. Unless you are a mall crawler, and only need it for looks, do not cheap out buying a winch. Warn, Ramsey, Superwinch.

I would not hang a Chinese anything on the front of my Jeep. Personally, I bought a Ramsey. Oh, and it is on my TJ, not my XJ.

The very minimum is 1.5 times the weight of the vehicle it is mounted on, and 2 times the weight is preferred, so seeing as the Cherokee will weigh about 4000 lbs trail ready. IMO, a 6000 lb winch is the very least I would ever consider using, and I would personally go with an 8000 - 10000 lb winch and then buy something I could trust, as in Warn.

Ive got one on my Kawasaki Prairie 360 and Its done very well...
Much better than the come along I use when Im out on my Polaris.
Plus its dirt cheap so if it breaks... not a huge loss.

Either way its not four anything larger than an ATV.

Maybe if you get stuck in a puddle. Haha.
